Combs

The basis of quality grooming starts with appropriate tools. Cat coats don't use brushes, contrary to popular belief... but instead utilize combs.

However, different combs work differently for different area's of the coat. Check out these differences below:

General Body Combs

Coarse.png
Goal:
Loosen and detangle large swatches of fur. Finds tangles easily.
  • Fine & Coarse tine spacing.
  • For large areas like the back, belly and tail.
  • Cheaper combs have too wide of a spacing to have any deshed grip, but can find tangles and matting.
  • A higher quality comb will have a distinct difference in tine spacing to grip both slight deshed and finding tangles and matting

Face/Feet Combs

Goal:
Loosen and detangle densely packed fur and tight areas.
  • Tightly spaced tines
  • Short tine lengths
  • For tight areas of coat growth typically with dense areas of fur
  • This is ideal locations such as the crown of the head, the most forehead portion of the face,  dense feet fur, and especially front legs.

DeShedding Combs

Goal:
Loosens and removes already dead blown coat that's trapped.
  • Tightly spaced, often staggered tine design.
  • Designed to offer ''drag'' through the coat at the surface of the skin and the coat at the same time.
  • Removes dead blown coat that's trapped in the coat still.

General Body Combs:

Everyday combs are distinctly for grooming the coat while dirty or clean. The ideal comb doesn't create too much drag through the coat as you work through it

What education and or certifications does this groomer have? or are pursing currently?
While grooming isn't necessarily a regulated field requiring a degree to get into... it is a field that allows you to see a wide variety of talents and skills. Since there are no licensing requirements it is imperative that owners take it in their own hands to research who they are trusting their kitty with!
